Preliminary court proceedings held for Travis Airman

The next court-martial session involving Senior Airman Ahmad I. Al Halabi, convened at Travis AFB, Calif. At this 39a session, Col. Barbara G. Brand of the Central Circuit Judiciary, Randolph AFB, Texas, is expected to hear government and defense motions.

The panel of military members selected to hear the case at trial will not be present.

The date of the trial, to be held at Travis AFB, has tentatively been set for June 15.

Charges referred to court-martial include failure to obey a lawful general order or regulation, espionage, making false official statements, willful retaining of documents without authority and fraudulent credit application scheme.

Airman Al Halabi was on temporary duty at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for nine months serving as an Arabic language translator at the time of his alleged offenses. He was apprehended at Jacksonville Naval Air Station in Florida July 23, 2003. He is being held in pretrial confinement at Vandenberg AFB, Calif.
