DoD cuts miltiary band support at non-local public events

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. --  As a result of Department of Defense guidance on sequestration, the U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West has cancelled upcoming concerts in support of community outreach programs, quite possibly for the remainder of the fiscal year.

The U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West will cease performing for non-local, public affairs outreach events for the general public. This includes the cancellation of performances for schools, festivals, public concerts, and sporting events.

The U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West has been directed to cancel support to these events, but the Air Force will continue to remain focused on priorities of wartime missions, Wounded Warrior programs, and new defense strategy programs, while striving to protect family programs. Engaging with the public is a primary mission for U.S. Air Force Bands, and we will continue to seek additional ways to remain engaged with the American public.

The following scheduled performances by Travis Brass in the Seattle/Tacoma area near Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. are cancelled as a result of this directive:

March 20--Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall of Benaroya Hall, 200 University Street, Seattle
March 21--Veterans Administration Community Living Center, Tacoma, Wash.
March 22--Seattle Public Library Auditorium, 4th Ave, Seattle
March 23--Lincoln Theatre, South 1st St., Mount Vernon, Wash.
March 24--Ballard Branch of the Seattle Public Library, 22nd Ave, Seattle
