A different way to finance

McConnell comptrollers finished the first set of classes on the Defense Enterprise and Accounting Management System Aug. 23.

The new system is scheduled to be implemented in the 22nd Comptroller Squadron in September 2012.

DEAMS is an enterprise resource planning system and will replace multiple legacy systems that have been in operation for more than 30 years and operate independently of each other.

"It's combining several of the programs we use now into one," said Senior Airman Moses Tum, 22nd CPTS budget analyst.

The goal of the new program is to streamline and ease financial management on both the customer and the customer service representative's side. It is designed to be more responsive and user friendly compared to the current systems.

"With our current systems," said Staff Sgt. Chadd Smith, 22nd CPTS NCO in charge, "if you click on something like an accounting line, it's not really going to tell you what that belongs to."

A large part of DEAMS was to eliminate many of the problems users have with current legacy systems.

"This system is more user friendly," said Smith. "It's also more informative on the menus and pages compared to our legacy systems."

McConnell is the first base in the Air Mobility Command to use DEAMS. Final implementation preparations begin in September with the conversion of transactional files, at which time users will begin processing transactions in the new system.
