Gen. Raymond Johns Jr., Air Mobility Command commander, received a greeting unlike any other the morning of Aug. 20 with more than 250 Mobility Airman saluting him as he arrived at the Headquarters AMC building.

On behalf of the more than 35,000 enlisted Airmen in AMC, Chief Master Sgt. Andy Kaiser, AMC command chief, announced that Johns' nomination for the AMC Order of the Sword was confirmed. Johns' formal induction to the AMC Order of the Sword Ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 28.

"An Order of the Sword Ceremony is our way of showing Gen. Johns how much we appreciate his outstanding support of enlisted Airmen over the past three years of his command," said Kaiser.

Johns has approved more than $52 million for 500 quality of life programs focused on bettering Airmen.

Johns also led the way for Comprehensive Airman Fitness, in conjunction with Air Combat Command, arming Airmen with tools for resiliency and enabling them to thrive in their service.

"Gen. Johns loves Airmen, his entire career personifies strong mission focus and genuine compassion," said Kaiser. "His selfless focus has enabled thousands of Airmen and families to flourish."

An Order of the Sword is the highest honor enlisted Airmen can bestow upon a leader. The tradition is modeled after the Swedish Royal Order of the Sword. The sword is a symbol of truth, justice and power rightfully used.
