Master sergeant nails every PT test since new program in '03

Master Sgt. Kyle Bunn, an airfield systems manager at the Air Force Network Integration Center at Scott, has scored perfectly on every PT test he has taken since the start of the new program in 2003.

"I have never been a runner," said Bunn. "When I got to basic military training and technical school, I started eating three meals a day, something I didn't do prior to the Air Force and I gained about 20 pounds. I thought to myself 'I got to do something about this, I'm busting out of my uniform.' I started running with a buddy that I met in technical school and from then on it became a hobby and habit for me."

According to Bunn, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday he runs five miles in the morning and goes to the gym and does weight training on his lunch breaks. On Tuesdays and Thursdays he rests and on Sunday he runs six to seven miles.

Bunn likes to run with his Black Labrador retriever.

"I take her out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday," he said. "As soon as I grab the leash she's jumping and running around trying to get me out the door. She's what keeps me going."

Even though running is a large portion of Bunn's fitness regime, he stresses that cardio alone isn't enough.

"It's a lifestyle change," he said. "It's not a pill type diet; there's not a fast-track to it. It took me three months to get where I wanted to be. It takes a lot for an individual mentally to get into that lifestyle and I think that's the big barrier for most people. Doing squadron PT three times a week is great, but most people need more than that."
