AFGLSC wins bronze again Published Nov. 17, 2010 By Burt Foutz Air Force Global Logistics Support Center Commander's Action Group SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- For the second year in a row, the Air Force Global Logistics Support Center won the Bronze Award in the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Workforce Development Award. They won last year in their first year of competition. Although other organizations have won this award more than once, the AFGLSC was the only Large Organization to be selected from last year's competition. The USD (AT&L) Workforce Development Award was established in May, 2004. It is designed to recognize organizations that achieve excellence in educating and developing their employees as well as identifying some best practices for other organizations to adopt. Thirty-three organizations competed this year for the gold, silver and bronze awards in both the large and small organization categories. A panel of seven judges comprised of educators and professionals from academia, industry, corporate learning institutions, and government conducted the evaluation process. The AFGLSC won the bronze because of best practices such as the Supply Management Certificate Program which addresses critical gaps in career development and provides employees a developmental career path and training roadmap. Since the program was implemented in July of 09, forty-two supervisors have been certified. Another best practice was the development of the Functional Task Certification where supply chain management employees are required to demonstrate proficiency of primary skill tasks through structured on-the-job training. Sixteen SOJTs have been approved for use with three core supply chain management disciplines. These are just a couple of the areas that garnered the bronze for the AFGLSC. According to Mr. Ray Forcier, the AFGLSC Workforce Strategy Lead and the author to this year's submission package, "If you look at all the packages submitted, and they were available for view in the program at this year's ceremony, you will see some outstanding 'best practices.' For us to win the bronze means we have a great program in place and we are doing a great job in putting programs out there to help our employees succeed. But to win this twice in a row and to win in our first two years of competition is unbelievable. We could not have done that without having a fantastic team of hard working individuals dedicated to ensuring the members of the AFGLSC are the most highly trained supply chain managers in the Air Force." For the large organizations, this year's gold went to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Keyport, Washington. The silver went to the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center, Warren, Michigan. The AFGLSC shared the bronze with the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center, Natick, Massachusetts.
