'Consolidated tool kit' directly supports Air Force mission in Hawaii

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii --  Worldwide, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Hickam AFB's "consolidated tool kit" is working hard to maintain aircraft.

The joint consolidated tool kit is a tool shop made up of Airmen from 15th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and 735th Air Mobility Squadron. Their job is to make sure every maintenance tool and piece of specialized aircraft is serviceable for aircraft repairs. They also help service transient aircraft.

According to Mr. Peter Newton, 735th Air Mobility Squadron sortie support technician, the consolidated tool kit is an essential part of keeping aircraft airborne.

"We are a key element to this base due to the fact that nothing can get fixed or done without us. There is no way to service an aircraft without the consolidated tool kit," he said.

Staff Sgt. Mark Roberson, 15th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron support section NCOIC, noted that the worldwide Air Force mission is affected day in and day out.

"Being in the middle of the Pacific, it's a major transient spot," he said. "Planes come in and out here every day and we have a lot to do with that. Anything that comes in we handle the tools in and out to support the mission."
