Air Force officials awarded the 62nd Airlift Wing an overall outstanding rating following a Command Cyber Readiness Inspection June 28 through July 2.

The CCRI simply provides a "quick look" inspection of McChord's network security configuration, and compliance with Department of Defense Information Assurance and computer network security.

Inspectors from the Defense Information Systems Agency evaluated the 62d Communication Squadron to review network and information security posture.

In addition to the network scans, the inspectors toured facilities that have classified connectivity and systems. They also reviewed tracking processes and the procedures for closing any vulnerabilities that are found.

"There was a tremendous amount of effort in preparation for this inspection," said Staff Sgt. Katherine Vilca, 62d Communication Squadron Wing Emission Security Manager.

Sergeant Vilca said the communication squadron went through different phases to prepare, including the institution of 12 hour working shifts, weekend hours, and contacting other bases for guidance.

The outstanding rating was awarded not only to the communications squadron, but to all users. Everyone who accesses the Global Information Grid has a responsibility to ensure that it is utilized properly. The rating was a reflection of the users' dedication to ensure excellence in all we do.

Due to the communication squadron's practices and procedures, as well as the assistance of users and close involvement with leadership, McChord was able to earn an outstanding rating in all categories.

"In the end, all of our hard work paid off," said Sergeant Vilca. "The outstanding rating we received was worth it."
