Captain Camacho named Outstanding AMC Flying Instructor of the Year flight nurse

Capt. John Camacho, a flight nurse with the 375th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, was recently named the 2009 Outstanding Air Mobility Command Flying Instructor of the Year.

Over the course of the year, Captain Camacho created seven ground and flight training schedules, and taught and prepared seven new future AE flight nurses for worldwide duty. The captain's leadership during his time as the interim aircrew training flight commander for the 375th AES ensured eight students received initial qualification and four crew received instructor upgrade training increasing squadron capability by 30 percent. He led 13 AE missions as the medical crew director for Ramstein, Iraq, Afghanistan and U.S. with zero mishap rate and his squadron was awarded AES aircrew of the year.

As U.S. Central Command/Air Force Central Command's AE liaison officer to Joint
Patient Movement Requirement Center he conducted patient movement training and taught Air Force Instruction and standards at forward operating bases directly leading to a 28 percent decrease in patient preparation errors in just two months. He visited more than 10 FOBs to train U.S. and coalition forces on AE patient movement and patient preparation enabling AE missions inside forward deployed regions to increase efficiency by more than 30 percent. Additionally, during this recent deployment, Captain Camacho also served as the nurse for more than 50 joint servicemembers in Afghanistan while traveling on ground convoys to the FOBs and coordinated a medical response plan for the missions.
