In an official announcement May 6, the 319th Operations Support Squadron was named Air Mobility Command's Outstanding Large OSS of the Year.

The 319th OSS's mission is to ensure the readiness and dispatch of 12 KC-135 Stratotankers and more than 100 aircrew for rapid global aerial refueling, airlift and Aeromedical evacuation.

"The contributions made by the men and women of the 319th OSS and the 317th OSS (winner of the AMC Outstanding Small OSS of the Year) are truly outstanding and warrant the highest recognition," said Gen. Raymond E. Johns, Jr., AMC commander.

The 319th OSS has won multiple Air Force and command-level awards. Some of the awards the 319th OSS has received include AMC Aircrew Flight Equipment Small Unit of the Year, Air Force Airfield Management Journeyman/Technician of the Year, AMC Air Traffic Control Enlisted Manager of the Year, and AMC Airfield Management Airman of the Year.

"It is an incredible honor," said Lt. Col. James Warnke, 319th Operations Group deputy commander, about receiving the award.

On top of winning numerous awards, the 319th OSS was the busiest ATC Complex in AMC for the year. The Grand Forks Air Force Base tower and approach control facilities managed more than 143,000 local flight operations, the most in AMC.

"Our Airmen and civilians did an amazing job," said Colonel Warnke.

Even with the amount of local flight operations under its control, the 319th OSS boasts a perfect safety record.

"The award is a testament to the outstanding leaders, front line supervisors, and technicians in our diverse squadron," said Colonel Warnke.
