Dover Airman named deployed wing's 'Warrior of the Week

SOUTHWEST ASIA --  Staff Sgt. Eric Lowery, a fuels distribution Airman, was named "Warrior of the Week" for the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing for the week of Dec. 30, 2009, to Jan. 5, 2010.

Sergeant Lowery, the Fuels Service Center accountant and controller with the 380th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron at a non-disclosed base here, is deployed from the 436th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Dover Air Force Base, Del.

The staff sergeant described how his job impacts the mission of his unit and wing.

"I am responsible for the delivery of fuel to all deployed and transient aircraft here, with an average nine-minute response time ensuring the timely delivery of fuel and also ensuring on-time departures," said Sergeant Lowery, whose hometown is Wilder, Vt. "I am also responsible for the second largest fuels account in the deployed area of responsibility and process approximately $1.25 million dollars in fuels transactions nightly."

The newest "Warrior of the Week" also discussed how much he has enjoyed his deployment with the 380th AEW.

"I have really enjoyed getting the opportunity to use my skills in accounting and teaching my counterpart the fuels accounting process," Sergeant Lowery said. "I also enjoyed working with different agencies on the base to make sure the mission was taken care of at all times."

Sergeant Lowery also described how he has worked on many of his goals during this deployment.

"Operationally, there are many things pertaining to my job that I knew but I needed to fine tune my skills and develop others to attain seven-level skill badge for my Air Force specialty. I would like to spend more time developing my core competencies, so I can continue providing confident and reliable answers to any people with questions."

Sergeant Lowery also recently pinned on staff sergeant and added, "I have also been actively preparing myself for the additional required responsibilities of a frontline supervisor and mentor."

He's continued to build his educational goals as well, such as testing in the College-Level Examination Program.

"Educationally, I have continued to take CLEPs in pursuit of my Community College of the Air Force degree," Sergeant Lowery said. "I am currently seeking my CCAF and also I am working towards a bachelor of arts degree in accounting and finance."

The 380th AEW is comprised of four groups and 12 squadrons and the wing's deployed mission includes air refueling, surveillance and reconnaissance in support of overseas contingency operations in Southwest Asia.
