One of the Air Force's top priorities is taking care of its Airmen and their families and to further ensure that this is taken care of, the Secretary of the Air Force and Chief of Staff of the Air Force have designated July 2009-July 2010 Year of the Air Force Family, or YoAFF.

Furthermore, November has been designated National Military Family Appreciation Month and Sunday through Nov. 7 has been designated Air Force Family Week. Across Scott AFB, many different activities will be offered.

"Our goal is to highlight our existing services and develop new ways to expand them to meet the changing needs and expectations of today's military families," said Deb Teague, Airman and Family Readiness Community Readiness technician. "Strengthening the Air Force family is integral to the readiness and retention of our Airmen."

The theme of YoAFF is, "The Air Force is a great place to live, work, play." Some of the issues that will be emphasized include: health and wellness, Airman and family housing, Airman and family support and education, development and employment. In addition to activities on Team Scott, there will also be Air Force-wide activities throughout the year.

Several organizations on base have come together to create many programs to take care of the Scott Air Force Base family which includes, active duty members of all branches, Reserve and Guard components, civilians, single military members, spouses, children, retirees and community partners. Some new programs include a single Airmen dinner and special needs information fair.

Team Scott is hosting "Family Focus," which is an opportunity to recognize the many families that are part of our Air Force family. To nominate a family, visit www.scott.af.mil or www.375fss.com and click on the Team Scott Family Focus link.
