Travis' 615th CRW completes first unit compliance inspection

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. --  The 615th Contingency Response Wing recently garnered an "excellent" rating following its first unit compliance inspection.  The inspection was conducted by a team from Air Mobility Command Inspector General Office at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

It's been a little more than four years since the 615th CRW stood up at Travis. Since then, the men and women of this high-operations tempo wing maintain a constant vigil, ready to deploy their capabilities in response to crises around the world. Last week's inspection was designed to validate the wing's compliance with the Air Force regulations, operating instructions, procedures and processes its members use as the foundation of the 615th mission.

"As we mature as an organization, this was an incredible opportunity to review our programs and processes and give us a vector to make us even stronger," said Col. John Lipinski, 615th CRW commander.

The wing's unique capabilities also tested the resourcefulness of the inspection team. 

"This is definitely not your standard AMC wing, so there was extra preparation for my team to ensure a worthwhile inspection," said Col. John Almind, AMC inspection team chief.

Of those members of the 615th CRW being inspected, the colonel said, "I know you'll agree it wasn't easy. We gave you a tough, hard look. Obviously you prepared intensely and you definitely delivered."

"The IG team was thoroughly impressed by the attitude, motivation and eagerness of the organization," Colonel Lipinski said.

Colonel Almind also commented on the wing's positive attitude. "I've not seen a more motivated team in the three years on the IG team," he said. "Your superstars have wowed the inspection team."

One of those "superstars" was Staff Sgt. Martha Mitchell, 615th CRW Wing Staff Client Systems Administration, who was recognized as an exceptional performer during the UCI for her role in managing CSA. Sergeant Mitchell provides computer support and maintenance for the wing and oversees the CSA additional duty program. Mitchell created a hierarchy for the CSAs, established quarterly training and certification programs, and set up continuity and a common SharePoint site for administration.

Sergeant Mitchell described the UCI as heralding what's to come for CSA. "There's still a lot of work to do and I have visions for the different areas I'm in charge of," she said. "The UCI was a good start."

The wing's first UCI set precedence for the future of the 615th CRW, giving members of the organization an opportunity to examine how their motivation, professionalism and adherence to Air Force standards strengthen their ability to complete the mission.

"The men and women of the 615th definitely live by their motto, "Warrior Airmen ... Postured for Immediate Response," Colonel Almind said.
