AMC's info ops cell moves to 618th TACC Published July 8, 2009 By the Information Operations Division 618th Tanker Airlift Control Center SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- The 618th Tanker Airlift Control Center stood up its Information Operations Division in June, transferring the IO capability from the Headquarters AMC Combat Operations Division to the 618th TACC's Current Operations Directorate. Information Operations is a function of military operations aimed to influence and disrupt an adversary's ability to use data and information, while at the same time protecting our own information capabilities. The capabilities that IO provides are outlined by Air Force doctrine and policy directives, and include influence operations, electronic warfare operations, and network warfare operations. As Air Mobility Command's air and space operations center, the 618th TACC is the execution arm for providing America's Global Reach, responsible for centralized command and control of Air Force and commercial contract air mobility assets 24-hours-a-day. The 618th TACC plans, schedules and tracks a fleet of more than 1,300 tanker, airlift and aeromedical evacuation aircraft worldwide to efficiently and effectively accomplish AMC's Global Reach mission. Information Operations (IO) is a key player in providing the 618th TACC its capability to execute the air mobility mission and also has an important role in helping to seamlessly transitioning from day-to-day operations to contingency support or disaster relief. Information has historically been a key factor in human competition, in both war and military operations other than war. Those with a superior ability to gather, understand, control, and use information have always had a substantial advantage over their adversaries. Today, IO is conducted across the full range of military operations, and it is critical to gaining and maintaining information superiority. From a historical perspective, IO support to the 618th TACC and AMC began in 1997 with Air Force Air Intelligence Agency's creation of IO Detachment-4. The unit was redesignated as the 67th Information Warfare Flight, and aligned under the TACC in 2001 to cover the Air Operations Center worldwide mission. In 2007 the 67th IWF was officially closed, with the remaining positions moving to Headquarters AMC. The 618th TACC's IO division stood up June 1, marking the return of IO's operational planning and execution capability to 618th TACC.
