Before leaving to visit service members in Germany, Turkey, Iraq, Kuwait, Djibouti and Spain, seven NCAA coaches visited Air Mobility Command headquarters here May 28 as part of Coaches Tour 2009.

The group, which includes 2008 Coach of the Year Mack Brown, University of Texas; Troy Calhoun, U.S. Air Force Academy; Jim Grobe, Wake Forest University; Rick Neuheisel, UCLA; Houston Nutt, University of Mississippi; Jim Tressel, Ohio State University; and Tommy Tuberville, former Auburn University coach, will spend the next several days meeting and talking to troops and coaching flag football games overseas.

Lieutenant Gen. Vern M. Findley, AMC vice commander, greeted the coaches and escorted them to the AMC headquarters building where the coaches visited with the AMC commander, Gen. Arthur J. Lichte.

While at Scott AFB, the group also spent the afternoon learning about the global reach AMC provides through airlift, air refueling and aeromedical evacuation.

Additionally, the group visited the 618th Tanker Airlift Control Center to learn how mobility aircraft missions are planned and scheduled to deliver combat support and strategic airlift to the warfighter.

The coaches, who are accompanied by military personnel, civilian representatives from supporting organizations and a production crew who will document the trip, will be transported by a KC-135R Stratotanker from McConnell AFB, Kan., for the majority of their journey. McConnell AFB is home to AMC's 22nd Air Refueling Wing.

Coaches Tour 2009, sponsored by Morale Entertainment, LLC, in association with Armed Forces Entertainment, is the second annual tour of college coaches to the Middle East.
