Sixteen mid-level civilian employees from Air Mobility Command visited Tinker AFB to experience the diverse missions of various units at the base, Sept. 19.

The civilians are participants in the ongoing AMC Civilian Leadership Development Program -- a year-long program designed to provide mentoring and enhanced situational awareness for potential civilian leaders.

"The clear intent of the program is to provide our rising civilian professional work force an opportunity to learn and discuss the 'big picture' of AMC's mission," said Joan Gudinas, civilian force development specialist and program manager for AMC. "CLDP participants experience how command components contribute to the greater Air Force and DoD mission."

During the visit, participants were briefed by key personnel at Tinker regarding various aspects of Tinker's mission. Tour sites included the aircraft depot maintenance facility spanning 62 acres and stretching seven tenths of a mile. Visitors saw how the 76th Maintenance Wing performs programmed depot maintenance on KC-135, B-1B, B-52 and E-3 aircraft, among others.

"It is an amazing facility with so much necessary and complex work being done under this one roof to keep aircraft like the KC-135 flying longer," said Kathy Gunn, AMC staff historian and CLDP participant. "Leadership there continues to find ways to do things faster and smarter, so that the aircraft are back to the warfighters sooner. I'm pretty sure our tour only scratched the surface of the daily work and effort put forth."

CLDP participants also toured the Navy's technical training facility for the E-6B Mercury aircraft.

"This trip provided a terrific opportunity for our CLDP participants to see and learn about a part of the Air Force and DoD enterprise they wouldn't ordinarily be exposed to," said Gregg Clark, AMC deputy director of manpower, personnel and services. "It was evident that Tinker AFB is a team of professionals who take great pride in what they do to support the DoD and Air Force mission."
