Travis Airman awarded William P. Parenteau Memorial Award

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. --  A captain from the 15th Air Mobility Operations Squadron has been selected as the William A. Parenteau Memorial Award recipient for 2007.

Capt. Jefferson DeBerry was presented the award during a ceremony in Washington D.C., Oct. 30.

The award is given by the Air Traffic Control Association to an individual for outstanding achievement and contribution which has added to the quality, safety and efficiency of air traffic control around the world.

During the past year, Captain DeBerry distinguished himself by positively impacting air traffic operations around the globe.

Some of Captain DeBerry's accomplishments included deploying more than 100 days in support of three of the largest DoD combat exercises in North America as well as actively engaging in various global air traffic management summits.

In addition, he served as a member for a project that was able to increase Spangdahlem Air Bases' airfield size, and assisted in integrating sustained cargo aircraft operations on a fighter base, helping to enhance air mobility capabilities.

"The award is open to all military and civilian air traffic controllers around the world," Captain DeBerry, said. "It is both an honor and a privilege to have been selected for such a prestigious award."

"This award reflects all of the hard work put forth by so many dedicated professionals that I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with," he added.

After reaching an important milestone in his career, Captain DeBerry offers some helpful words of advice to those trying to reach their goals.

"Every day has its own challenges, but success comes to those that constantly set goals and achieve them. The smallest tasks, no matter how menial or insignificant, should bring you closer to fulfilling your own goals. Stay focused and always keep your goals in sight," he said.
