Leaders bring 60th Anniversary message to base Published Feb. 22, 2007 By Capt. Jason McCree 92nd ARW Public Affairs FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- As part of the events planned here to honor the Air Force's 60th Anniversary, Team Fairchild will welcome an Air Force senior leader this month to kick off the base's 60th Anniversary Speaker's Symposium. Brig. Gen. Erwin F. "Erv" Lessel III, who is the Air Force Director of Communication, will visit Fairchild Wednesday. General Lessel, a former 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander, will come to Team Fairchild delivering messages about Air Force heritage, leadership and excellence. "General Lessel's visit will be a great opportunity for our people to gain knowledge and insight directly from a flag officer who helps to set the course for our service," said Capt. Lou Cumming, wing point of contact for the general's visit. Captain Cumming also heads up the wing's 60th anniversary of the Air Force committee. While at Fairchild, General Lessel will have a busy schedule. "We have set an itinerary that puts the general in touch with many Airmen throughout the wing," said the captain. "He will talk to many different groups during the day, concluding with a reception at Club Fairchild that will include our Airmen and people from the local community." However, the symposium will not end with General Lessel. "Throughout the coming months, Air Force senior leaders will travel to Fairchild to participate in the symposium," said Captain Cumming. The symposium will culminate with a keynote speaker at the Air Force Ball in September. "The symposium during the coming year is sure to bring our Airmen closer to Air Force heritage," he said. "These leaders will provide us valuable knowledge that we can take with us throughout our careers."
