C-130 accident investigation board complete Published Feb. 9, 2007 SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Air Mobility Command today released the results of its investigation into the July 17, 2006 mishap involving a C-130E, deployed from the 43d Airlift Wing, Pope Air Force Base, N.C., during a night landing at Al Asad Air Base, Iraq. The aircrew flying the C-130E was deployed from the 317th Airlift Group, Dyess Air Force Base, Texas. The Accident Investigation Board, convened by AMC, concluded the primary cause of the mishap was pilot and crew error. The mishap occurred when the aircrew used aggressive braking and a high speed taxi after landing. This resulted in mechanical failure in three of the aircraft's four brakes and led to a fire in one of its wheel wells. Firefighters immediately extinguished the fire when the aircraft stopped, but extensive damage was done to the left side of the C-130E. The crew and 56 passengers were uninjured and safely evacuated the aircraft.
