Base unveils 'City of Spokane'

FAIRCHILD AFB, Wash -- --  The latest incarnation of the "City of Spokane," a KC-135 with tail number 58-0092, was unveiled near base operations here before an audience that included Spokane, Wash., Mayor Dennis Hession, local government and business leaders, Fairchild honorary commanders and Eagles, July 26.

"The new City of Spokane has as proud a heritage as the Team Fairchild Airmen who now fly it," said Col. Scott Hanson, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander. 

The aircraft, manufactured in Seattle and delivered to the Air Force in 1959, has flown missions during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm, Southern Watch and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The flying crew chief of the new City of Spokane is Staff Sgt. Keith Kramer, 92nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. He is assisted by Staff Sgt. Wesley Foster, Senior Airman Juan Hernandez, and Senior Airman Lane Perez.

Sergeant Kramer is extremely proud to be the crew chief on aircraft 58-0092. "It is a special privilege to do this for the colonel's aircraft," he said.

The first City of Spokane was a B-29 based here in the late 1940s, said Dan Simmons, the 92nd ARW historian. A KC-135, 59-1463, bore the name in 1990. A second KC-135, 63-8017, was given the name in 1992. A third tanker, 60-0337, was christened City of Spokane in 2000, said Mr. Simmons.
