AMC commander thanks troops, loved ones Published Nov. 2, 2005 By 1st Lt. Ed Gulick Air Mobility Command Public Affairs NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AMCNS) -- Gen. Duncan McNabb's initial impression of Air Mobility Command members is they are part of a well-respected, combat-hardened force, and are the crown jewel of the nation. “It’s amazing how respected [AMC] is,” said the new AMC commander. "The value we bring to this nation, I truly believe, is not only profound in its effect, but it’s well appreciated.” The general said he considers it an honor to serve with such a respected group of Airmen, whom he calls “some of the great sons and daughters of our nation.” Yet, he also sees families watching behind the scenes as their loved ones put their lives at risk in support of the Global War on Terrorism. “My wife calls them the 'stay-at-home patriots.' Air Mobility Command's great Airmen could not do the job they do everyday without the support from family and loved ones,” he said. The general talked about how AMC members are part of something larger than themselves when they help the world in humanitarian and contingency missions, but he said this support doesn't come without a price. “We protect tomorrow for our nation and for freedom-loving people around the world,” he said, “but it’s at great sacrifice and great risk. It’s always a lot easier to put yourself at risk than a loved one." But, the general stressed that it’s a complete team of AMC members and their families that make AMC “one of the crown jewels of our national defense.” “You are so important to what our nation tries to do,” General McNabb said. “Whether that is fighting and winning the nations wars, providing humanitarian assistance, or shaping a relationship with other nations, you all provide that and you do it so very, very well.”
