AMC uniform travel policy still in effect Published Sept. 30, 2005 SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- In light of recent changes to the command's "uniform of the day" policy -- in which the duty uniform was changed from blue service uniform to battle dress uniform -- Air Mobility Command officials are reminding Airmen that the AMC uniform travel policy has not changed. On duty-related commercial air travel within the Continental united States, AMC personnel must still wear the blue service uniform with either long- or short-sleeved blue shirt. When wearing short sleeves, ties and tie tabs are no longer mandatory.Additionally, AMC personnel are prohibited from wearing their uniform in business or first-class seating, even if they are eligible for frequent flyer or courtesy upgrades.Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve personnel performing duties that require them to take direction from the AMC commander are also required to adhere to the policy. Guard and Reserve personnel performing duties under the direction of their parent command should abide by the policies set forth by that agency.AMC officials said there are certain instances where it would not be practical to wear the blue service uniform on commercial flights. The following are authorized exceptions to the AMC uniform travel policy:-- Personnel traveling on long trips with extended layovers that would result in a less-than-professional appearance.-- Personnel traveling with excessive or bulky equipment or baggage, or if wearing blues would make transporting equipment or baggage impractical.-- Personnel traveling in CONUS en route to temporary duty overseas or returning from an overseas TDY.-- Personnel involved in duties where wear of the uniform would jeopardize their mission (i.e., working with the secret service, security details, etc).Uniform wear on overseas commercial flights is still prohibited.AMC officials remind people that Air Force Instruction 36-2903, Dress and Appearance of Air Force Personnel, lists complete guidelines for proper uniform wear.
