'Appointment Plus' connects Airmen and families with helping agencies

Scott Air Force Base servicemembers, their families, and civilians now have a new Web-based tool called "Appointment Plus" to help connect them with classes and workshops offered by various helping agencies.

Appointment Plus is a commercially-accessible Web site that allows users to sign up for classes and activities offered by the Airman & Family Readiness Center, the Base Chapel, Family Advocacy, Health Promotions, the Mental Health Clinic, and Healthcare to Healthcare, which manages programs like diabetes prevention and 5210 Healthy Military Children.

Users can access the site anytime, anywhere on military and non-military computers or cell phones.

"The advantage of Appointment Plus is it allows us to put resources directly in the hands of the customer," said Amy Uptergrove, scott's community support coordinator. "Team Scott members can log on whenever they want from wherever they may be to view a central listing of classes and events.

"They can register, get a confirmation, and send themselves a reminder," said Uptergrove. "Or, if they need to cancel or make a change to their registration, they can do it through Appointment Plus too. They don't have to make multiple phone calls or wait till someone is available to help them. They don't even need a Common Access Card to access the site."

Appointment Plus also allows helping agencies like the Airman and Family Readiness Center to give more time back to their clients.

"We spend so much of the day answering questions about our classes and getting people registered. Appointment Plus allows us to use that time more effectively and efficiently by giving the Scott community direct access to that information and the ability to sign up on their own," said Betty Hart, a transition assistance program manager, at A&FRC.

Hart, who recently returned to Scott from Travis AFB where Appointment Plus has been in use for over a year, has seen the positive difference it makes.

"The A&FRC offers a lot of great programs that people may not know about, especially if they are new to the military or just moved here " said Hart. "One of the best features about Appointment Plus is it shows a listing of what's available at Scott in one place without having to go to several different Web sites."

Another benefit of Appointment Plus is its accessibility 24 hours a day.

"At Scott, like other bases, not everybody works the normal 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. day shift," said Uptergrove.

"For those who work mid or third shifts, most offices are normally closed when they are on duty. This means they can't call someone to ask questions or to register for classes. Appointment Plus solves that problem.

"Appointment Plus also helps parents who may be busy all day with work and children who don't have time until it's night when normal business hours are over," said Uptergrove.

"It's important to make sure resources that are designed to help people are easy to get to.

"Appointment Plus allows us to reach out to the Team Scott community in a new way that is customized to them."
