Emergency responders from the 87th Civil Engineer Squadron and 87th Security Forces Squadron responded to a gas line break June 25, 2014, at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J.

The gas line was hit during routine maintenance but was quickly defused by first responders.

For precautionary measures, a cordon was established and a building within the area was evacuated as the gas line was shut off.

Because the location of the break was near a heavily used traffic circle, security forces speedily created and alternate route to allow the base populous to safely move about from the McGuire side to the Dix portion of the joint base.

The team work amongst multiple agencies allowed the base to continue to operate at normal and safe conditions while the scene was cleared within an hour of notification.
