Air Mobility Command officials announced the 2013 AMC Outstanding Security Forces Individual Award winners Nov. 21, 2013.

Four members from the 436th Security Forces Squadron, Craig Gilbert, 436th SFS security specialist; Senior Airman Justin Jarrett, 436th SFS response force leader; Staff Sgt. Ted Wozniak, 436th SFS base defense operations center controller and installation patrolman; and Staff Sgt. Jason Spangenberg, 436th SFS military working dog handler, won awards and will go on to compete at the Air Force level.

Lt. Col. Joel Briske, 436th SFS commander, said those selected for the awards represent the hard work the 436th SFS does each day.

"I am truly proud of those who have been selected as the top performers at the AMC level," said Briske. "Their performance is representative of our entire unit."

Jarrett was awarded the Outstanding Security Forces Flight-Level Airman Award. This award is awarded to personnel ranked airman basic through senior airman who perform security and or police service duties.

"I am pretty happy I won the award," said Jarrett. "It says a lot about our squadron that four people won. We have good leadership at the top that funnels its way down making sure everyone is working hard and doing what they need to do."

Wozniak was awarded the Outstanding Security Forces Flight-Level NCO Award. This award is given to personnel ranked staff sergeant and technical sergeant who perform security and or police service duties.

Tech. Sgt. Daniel Shaw, 436th SFS flight chief, said Wozniak received the award because of the extreme amount of pride he has in himself and his job. Shaw said he also takes the initiative to lead and mentors flight Airmen and monitors their progress.

"Wozniak is one of my top controllers and supervisors," said Shaw. "He trains all of our new patrolmen and is being groomed for my position. I'm sure his overall leadership capabilities, his high degree of motivation and drive to succeed made him stand out over his peers."

Gilbert was awarded the Outstanding Security Forces Civilian Support Staff Award. This award is awarded to a civilian who is assigned to and works in a security forces unit and performs security related duties, and not routinely performing flight-level functions.

Richard Gates, 436th SFS plans and programs chief, said Gilbert is an exceptional employee who truly embraces the Air Force's core values. Gates said Gilbert is extremely dedicated to the mission and seeks every opportunity to ensure the unit stays on track.

"His talents and dedication were outlined in his package and stood on their own," said Gates. "Craig accomplishes amazing things in SFS and certainly deserves this level of recognition. I am confident he will represent AMC well when he competes at the Air Force level."

Lastly, Spangenberg was awarded the Col. Billy Jack Carter Award. This award is given to security forces members who have excelled in safeguarding Air Force personnel and resources.

Tech. Sgt. Adam Fike, 436th SFS kennel master and Spangenberg's supervisor, said Spangenberg received the award because of his significant achievement during his deployment to Afghanistan.

"I feel fantastic and proud that he won," said Fike. "That is an awesome achievement and being a kennel master and a supervisor I couldn't ask for anything more. I am just proud of him and all the hard work he put in while on deployment."

Briske said it is great honor that the 436th SFS won four out of the 14 categories.

"Since I took command, immediately I knew this unit was performing at an excellent level," said Briske. "It is important that members of this unit are recognized for their hard work as we make it our business to earn our badge every day to do our part of delivering today's airlift...forging tomorrow's leaders."
