Caputo 22nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- Two members of Team McConnell, Lynn Emond and Capt. Andrea Berger, have been nominated by Air Mobility Command for the 2013 Gen. Wilma Vaught Visionary Leadership Award. The award, named in honor of Brig. Gen. Wilma Vaught, recognizes service members and civilians who have exhibited innovation, commitment and a selfless spirit of service to others while inspiring others and significantly improving the integration of and opportunities for women in the Air Force. "I am very proud and honored to be a member of the Air Force team," said Emond, 22nd Air Refueling Wing sexual assault prevention and response program manager, "and I want to support spouses and female Airmen in any way that my program and I can." Emond's ability to implement and train patient advocates throughout the base helped increase awareness and knowledge about sexual assault, which led to her nomination for the award. Berger, a 349th Air Refueling Squadron pilot, was deployed at the time of her nomination. "I could not be happier for Capt. Berger," said Lt. Col. Stephen Matthews, 349th ARS commander. "This award recognizes the hard work and dedication she has to our mission and to the Air Force. She truly is a role model for women in the military." Emond and Berger will now compete with the nominees from each major command for the Air Force-level award.
