WWII veterans gather for final USS Franklin reunion
Surviving crewmembers of the USS Franklin (CV 13) walk toward the USS Yorktown (CV 10) for their final reunion May 17, 2013, at Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. On March 19, 1945, the Franklin was hit by two Japanese bombs, which ignited armed aircraft and triggered a gasoline vapor explosion devastating the hangar bay, killing more than 800 Sailors and wounding nearly 500.
