Past and present heroes honor the fallen

A joint-service color guard team prepares to retire the colors at a Prisoner of War/Missing in Action retreat ceremony on Joint Base Charleston, S.C., Sept. 17, 2010. The ceremony was held in honor of POW's and military members who never returned from action and paid the ultimate sacrifice for American freedom. Thirteen former POWs from the Lowcountry area were honored for their service at the retreat. The color guard consisted of members from all five military service branches assigned to the Navy Consolidated Brig and Coast Guard Sector Charleston.
