Military kids get a dose of wilderness

SPOKANE, Wash. – From left, Makyla Carney, Katherine Schmoldt, Issac Detiege and Matthew Lacey sit in a shelter built by instructors from the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape School at Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash. The children attended the Blue Green Summer Youth Camp here July 16 - 20, where they learned a bit about deployed environments and learned coping strategies for separation stresses. The camp is a joint-service camp designed specifically for children with deployed parents. This year, all Department of Defense services were represented through the young campers.
