Loading a C-5 for Operation Desert Shield
At Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany, Army Apache helicopters stand ready for air transportation Airmen to load them on a Military Airlift Command C-5 Galaxy bound for the Middle East for Operation Desert Shield in August 1990. Within the first few months of Desert Shield, Rhein-Main AB serviced almost as much air traffic as it would in a normal year. (U.S. Air Force History Photo)
