CHAKLALA AIR FIELD, Rawalpindi, Pakistan -- In response to requests for support from the Government of Pakistan, a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft from the 3rd Airlift Squadron, Dover Air Force Base, Del., on May 20 delivered humanitarian assistance for the estimated 1.7 million Pakistanis displaced by current military operations against violent extremists in the country's northwestern provinces. Rear Admiral Michael LeFever spearheads the Defense Department's support efforts, which includes providing 120,000 pre-packaged halal meals, environmentally controlled tents, electrical generators, water trucks and other items. This is in addition to food, logistical support and funding being provided by the American people through the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development.
