Airman recovers from life-threatening illness thanks to innovative medical procedure
Staff Sgt. Jennifer Vaughan and her fiancé, Master Sgt. Daniel Grabski, know the hallways of the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis all too well as Jennifer spent seven months there after doctors performed an innovative and life-saving procedure when her lungs failed on Christmas Day 2012. She had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a type of blood cancer, and doctors put her on a lung bypass machine normally used only in infants while also administering chemotherapy. She is now in remission and hopes her story will help other patients, doctors and families in similar situations. Vaughan and Grabski are both assigned to the 375th Aerospace Medicine Squadron.
