Airman recovers from life-threatening illness thanks to innovative medical procedure

Staff Sgt. Jennifer Vaughan enjoys her first time outside the hospital with her dad, Jay Vaughan, in early March 2013. She survived being in a 62-day coma while placed on an ECMO machine (a lung bypass machine normally only used on infants) and undergoing chemotherapy for Leukemia. Though she is in remission, she is undergoing a Medical Evaluation Board with the Air Force, and said she’s looking forward to what the year 2014 brings as she plans for a small wedding and for her first child, due in June.
