334th TRS honors AF Hall of Famer
Retired Air Force Col. Derrel Dempsey and Brig. Gen. Patrick Higby, 81st Training Wing commander, prepare to cut the ribbon during a room dedication ceremony in Dempsey’s honor March 9, 2015, at Cody Hall, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. The 334th Training Squadron dedicated the building’s conference room in honor of Dempsey’s military accomplishments. The Air Force's award for the most outstanding air traffic control officer manager of the year is named in his honor. Dempsey has 30 years of Air Force aviation experience. In his final assignment as deputy chief of staff for Air Force Communication Command's air traffic services, he deployed more than 642 combat-ready Air Force air traffic controllers to 75 Federal Aviation Administration facilities during the 1981 air traffic controller strike.
