    AFIMSC seeks ideas for 2021 Innovation Rodeo

    The Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center kicks off its third annual Innovation Rodeo with a call-for-topics campaign starting Sept. 1. The campaign, open through Dec. 1, gives military and civilian members of mission support groups around the world a chance to win part of $1 million in funding and resources to pursue their ideas. 
  • The “Air Force Be Ready” app features a main menu that includes: emergency phone numbers, websites, a storm preparation checklist, potential storm threats, a customizable family plan and basic preparation suggestions.

    AFCEC leads hurricane season preparedness

    With a projected record-setting hurricane season in the making, the Air Force Civil Engineer Center’s Readiness Directorate is once again urging the Air Force community to “be ready” for natural disasters. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season that runs from June 1 to November 30 could include 19 named storms and 10 hurricanes – six of which are likely to be classified as major hurricanes.

    AFCEC spearheads Little Rock AFB runway replacement

    The Air Force Civil Engineer Center is leading a $180 million project to replace the 64-year-old runway at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas. AFCEC’s Facility Engineering Directorate is teaming with the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center’s Detachment 9, 772nd Enterprise Sourcing Squadron and 19th Civil Engineering Squadron to replace the 12,000-foot-long primary runway, eliminate airfield obstructions and modify the lighting and navigation aid systems.

    Air Force awards Little Rock AFB runway repair contract

    The Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC), in collaboration with Little Rock AFB, Air Force Installation Contracting Center and Air Force Installation Mission Support Center Detachment 9, awarded a $180 million contract to complete the runway replacement at the base. The project will replace the original runway infrastructure, constructed in 1956, involving the removal of airfield obstructions and modification of lighting for eight taxiways and the landing zone.

    As part of a sweeping effort to improve the Air Force housing program, officials revamped the fee structure to ensure residents have a voice in the operation and evaluation of housing, and increase the chain of command’s involvement and ability to solve problems and drive improvements at the installation level.

    I-WEPTAC 2020 registration opens

    Registration for the fourth annual Installation and Mission Support Weapons and Tactics Conference opened Tuesday. Hosted by the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, the annual event is the Air Force’s only innovation forum for members of the installation and mission support community. It draws experts from the various Air Force combat support core functions to address I&MS shortfalls and help shape and propose solutions.

    The unit which consolidated more than 150 Air Force-wide installation and mission support capabilities a year ago has achieved full operating capability. Maj. Gen. Brad Spacy, the commander of the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, declared FOC a year after his unit reached initial operating capability in October 2015.
