  • Published
Air Force Week activities continued here today with the a B-2 Spirit bomber, KC-135 Stratotanker, and C-130 Hercules gracing the skies of downtown.

Local media and civic leaders were invited to fly aboard the C-130 or KC-135 for a front row seat to watch the B-2 maneuver over the city and see St. Louis from on high.

Other events today included visits to local hospitals by Thunderbird team members and the appearance of the Air Force "Jet Car" at the St. Louis Science Center. "Cross Into the Blue," a high-tech, interactive exhibit that features an F-16 Fighting Falcon, an extreme equilibrium ride and several interactive games, continued to attract a steady crowd on its final day at the center. Thunderbird pilots will also be available at the Science Center this evening to meet with guests and sign autographs.

The purpose of Air Force week is to raise public awareness of the service's operations, capabilities and support of the war on terrorism; showcase Airmen; and thank the public for its heartfelt support of Air Force men and women.

The week will be capped off Aug. 12-13 with an open house and Air Fest at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. In addition to the Thunderbirds, the air show will include fighter and transport aircraft flyovers, parachute jumps, numerous static displays and other demonstrations. The event is free and open to the public.
