Dover Air Force Base recently wrapped up its 2021 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign, raising a total of $22,876. The campaign kicked off March 1, 2021, and finished April 23, 2021. Despite many Team Dover Airmen still teleworking, this year’s campaign finished with 233 individual contributors, placing Dover AFB first in Air Mobility Command for active duty participation and 10th Air Force wide.

Each year, the AFAF raises money for charities that provide direct financial assistance to Airmen and Space Force Guardians in various situations including financial hardship, recovering from natural disasters or a death in the family. Airmen and Guardians across the Air and Space Forces, including Dover AFB, have benefitted from these organizations.

“Every contribution matters, no matter how small,” said Capt. Lindamira Nkwenti, 436th Medical Support Squadron resource management flight commander and installation project officer for the 2021 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign. “The next person who needs help from the Air Force Assistance Fund might be someone you know, or even yourself.”

A couple of units on Dover AFB came up with creative ways to raise funds. Members of the 436th Operations Group organized a golf tournament, raising $900 in contributions.

“I usually make a donation each year, but this time I wanted to do something outside the box to encourage more participation in the campaign.” said Senior Master Sgt. Andrew Silkworth, 436th Aerial Port Squadron air terminal operations superintendent.

Silkworth handcrafted a river table out of wood and epoxy resin. The 436th APS auctioned it off, raising close to $2,000 in contribution funds.

“The Air Force Assistance Fund has provided help to our Airmen for decades,” said Col. Matt Husemann, 436th Airlift Wing commander. “I’m extremely proud of Team Dover’s contributions during this campaign. We must continue to support this effort to ensure Airmen and Guardians everywhere, including those in Team Dover, have access to support in times of need.”
