U.S. Air Force medical personnel transfer COVID-19 patients from the flightline at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, May 16, 2020. Aircrew transported the patients aboard a C-17 Globemaster III from Afghanistan, utilizing the Transport Isolation System to prevent the spread of the infectious disease. The TIS is an infectious disease containment unit designed to minimize contamination risk to aircrew and medical attendants, while allowing in-flight medical care for patients afflicted by a disease like COVID-19.
