LRAFB provides airlift support for Operation Allies Welcome
Senior Airman Thomas Alferes, 19th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron crew chief, watches as a C-130J Super Hercules assigned to the 19th Airlift Wing is refueled prior to transporting Afghan evacuees at Dulles International Airport, Virginia, Sept. 2, 2021. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
